I constantly read a lot of articles on the importance of Social Media Marketing. All mention a rise in traffic to their websites and an increase in followers either on Twitter or facebook, but none of these articles ever mentions any increase in business. Yet surely more business is what we as business owners are all craving?
“Let’s say you have $1,000,000 tied up in your little company and suddenly your advertising isn’t working and sales are going down. And everything depends on it. Your future depends on it, your family’s future depends on it, other people’s families depend on it. Now, what do you want from me? Fine writing? Or do you want to see the goddamned sales curve stop moving down and start moving up?”
The quote was from 50 years ago but still rings true today, especially with Social Media Marketing.
Of course, there are generic ‘awareness campaigns’ out there which try to educate potential customers about the benefits of a product or service or simply just shout “Hello, here we are, please work with us!”. These advertising campaigns are all very well, but if they don’t generate any business then surely they have failed, otherwise the campaign is a waste of money.
Do you want more followers and a rise in website traffic, or do you want more business? We know which we would choose every time!
